Sierra Leone abolished the death penalty in October 2021, after a longstanding de facto
moratorium on executions. Sierra Leone has ratified the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights but has not
made any apparent progress toward ratification of the Covenant’s Second Optional Protocol
(OP2).
