Suriname abolished the death penalty in the Penal Code in 2015 and in the Military Penal Code
in August 2021. Suriname has not yet ratified the Second Optional Protocol to the International Covenant on
Civil and Political Rights (OP2), aiming at the abolition of the death penalty.
